Hello to my readers and, once again, I apologise for the lack of updates.
There are going to be some changes happening around the website in the near future. I'll continue to provide free tutorials but the site itself will begin the transition into an environment more conducive to the exchange of knowledge and ideas regarding the use of Unity 3D and Second Life as platforms for creating, not just games, but training simulations. Part of the reason why I haven't had time to update the site has been due to dealing with interest in this subject. As a full-time educator and independent 3D developer, I feel as though my efforts would be better spent contributing to this field rather than involving myself directly with the gaming industry.
At the end of the day, it's still the same technology but the implementation is slightly different. There's more focus on quality control and robust design with a disproportionate amount of time spent liaising with people to make sure communication remains effective and that expectations are met.
I think that this is an important step for myself, as well as my online presence, as prior to this decision, I carried myself as more of a hobbyist in the field.
Besides that, I've continued to work in Unity 3D and have a few videos to show!
Facebook in 3D
This is more of an experiment than anything else. There are massive redundancy issues when recreating an existing 2D environment in 3D and embedding it within the same website. Similarly, while I could get a proper social network up and running, the idea is to use it to promote myself as a developer rather than to search for ways to monetize something I did as a test. This will be free for all to access so keep a lookout for it in the future.
Emergency Paramedic Response - Prototype
The University of Hertfordshire has given me a lot of room to experiment with new ideas. Something I did last year, as a prototype, involved looking into how we could use existing 3D technology to create training simulations for various faculties within the university.
Interest has continued to grow and I've had a formal request to create something more in-depth. I'll let you all know how that goes.
Health and Safety in the Workplace - Prototype
Yet more prototyping. I can't help but feel that this would work better in 2D than in 3D. If I was going to advise someone on the matter I'd say that using a side view in something like Flash would make for a clearer, less cluttered, learning environment. You'll also notice the physics for certain objects acting up at times. ;] Was certainly a learning experience for me, also the first time I've messed about with ragdoll physics inside Unity. That's all for now, I'll be re-enabling comments soon as I think I've found a good way to stop spam attacks. The forums will also be re-instated.
